Find answers to frequently asked questions about wealth management, financial planning for women and families, and how to choose a fiduciary financial advisor. Learn about Ellevest's work to close the gender wealth gap and our investment philosophy.
Founded in 2014, Ellevest is a women-founded, women-led financial services company dedicated to closing the gender wealth gap. Our mission is to get more money in the hands of women, their families, and the next generation through personalized, intentional wealth management and financial planning.
Ellevest is an SEC-Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) that has been named one of the fastest-growing fee-only RIAs in the US with assets of over $1 billion. Our team of women investment professionals offers sophisticated financial advice and strategy.
Ellevest’s investment philosophy focuses on what we can control — managing risk through diversification and minimizing costs and taxes where possible — not on stock picking or trying to time the market.
Investing and financial planning based on your goals: We take the time to learn about you and your household, identify your goals, and build your investment plan and strategy accordingly.
Values aligned investing: We select investments across stocks, bonds, and alternatives that align with your values without sacrificing returns. Our curated lineup of impact private funds are specifically chosen to be additive to your investment portfolio while generating positive social, economic, and/or environmental impact.
Holistic, total portfolio approach: We manage your assets considering your entire portfolio, not just the assets you hold with us.
Tax optimization: We manage your portfolio considering your tax posture and the cost basis of your investments.
Yes, Ellevest is a fiduciary. This is a legal designation that means we are required to act in your best interest at all times.
Every financial plan and investment recommendation is made to benefit you, the client, not Ellevest. Our fiduciary standard ensures your financial goals and values always come first.
Wealth affects women differently than men. It’s more challenging for us to gain wealth and easier for us to lose it.
More women tend to take career breaks to care for aging parents and young kids. Our earning power stalls earlier. Our businesses are less likely to get funded. Our health care and caregiving costs are generally higher. We’re saving less for our retirements despite our longer lifespans. And, we’re investing less across the board (even though research shows women are better investors than men).
Our different realities, priorities, and goals all require different financial considerations. But the traditional financial industry — built by men, for men — simply doesn’t account for women’s differences and preferences, and so it doesn’t work as well for us. How could it when only 32% of financial advisors in the US are women?
You deserve a financial plan that considers your life, your goals, and your values. That’s why it’s crucial to work with a financial advisor or financial planner who understands the uneven playing field and has motivation to do more. Just like our team of women investment professionals at Ellevest do.
Ellevest offers two investment management service levels depending on your account size:
Both services include portfolio management and financial planning at no additional charge.
Private Wealth Management clients also get access to select private investments and tax-efficient investing strategies.
Ellevest can manage taxable brokerage accounts and individual retirement accounts (IRAs). It can also manage donor-advised funds that allow you to incorporate your charitable giving goals into your investing strategy.
Portfolios include a variety of investments, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds and private investments.
Ellevest charges clients an assets under management fee ranging from 0.35% to 1.25%, depending on your account balance.
Ellevest also offers financial planning only for a flat fee to those who don’t have a managed portfolio with the firm. You’ll pay a flat $3,600 with the option to pay monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually.
As of April 10, 2025 Ellevest is no longer offering automated investing services. Ellevest entered into an agreement with Betterment, who acquired the qualifying investment accounts associated with our digital offering. Like Ellevest, Betterment is a mission-oriented company, a fiduciary, and an SEC-registered investment adviser.
If you had a qualified account but did not opt out before April 10, 2025, your Ellevest account(s) automatically transferred to Betterment. Your account transferred to Betterment in-kind, which means that all of your investment positions (except mutual funds) were moved "as is", without selling them and buying them again at Betterment. You can reach Betterment support directly at support@betterment.com or (718) 400-6898 with any questions.
If you have opted out or still have money with Goldman Sachs Custody Solutions, you can now work directly with them to access your funds. You can reach out to Goldman Sachs Custody Solutions directly at gs-custodysolutions@gs.com or (844) 413-1820 for assistance.
